#3 in Brooklyn #7 in NYC Bagel of Note Store of Note

Store: (Note: Store reviewed by second pass request) A tiny storefront on a light commercial block. Oozes that 'salt in the walls' bagel store charm that can only get boiled into a place - yellowed ceilings, vintage Boar's Head signage and a single deli case to house the spreads. The guts of the operation are viewable in back but hard to discern, much like whatever music is coming out of the tinny speakers seemingly meant principally for staff. Very low on amenities, but what is there impresses with its rarity: "Coney Island Sweets" brand Italian cookies and Temp Tee Cream Cheese are available for sale. The mostly young men behind the counter work quietly but deliberately, to outside appearances in a type of bagel flow state. A prime example of classic aesthetics presented effortlessly and achieved over decades. 4.5

Bagel: A small bagel by design, uncommon by contemporary city standards. Served fresh and warm just past 11 AM. Not cut all the way through. Two-sided topping coverage but overwhelmingly bottom dominant, standard seasoning composition. The density disparity plays well, alternating the focus between the toppings and the base bagel at varying bites. Quality salt representation, punching through with a savory cadence. Indeed the story of the bagel is its variety from bite to bite, culminating in its marvelous shell, which fluctuates from doughy to crusty toasty every step of the way. I get why all of you were mad at me that I missed this store, okay? You have great bagel tastes. Now go on Google and bump their review score up, because some inferior stores in the immediate area are rated much higher. 4.5

Cream Cheese: Served warm and icing like from the radiant heat of the bagel. Good amount applied and even coverage throughout. A moderately ripe spread in a way that communicates intent and not undue age. Pleasant tangy. The scallion doesn't factor in quite as much as I'd like - fairly fine chop with limited texture contribution - but the quality of the base spread is indisputable. 4.25
