Store: A well-considered interior - tilework floors, wooden slat partitions, brickwork and industrial vents. One might say the Brooklyn-patisserie aesthetic. Really clever addition to this situation is imported Italian cookies. They add class and visual interest while still being viable purchases and having a much longer shelf life than daily pastries. As for the nuts and bolts, limited drink selection, low pastry selection, and the deli salad offerings look like they've been touched by the air too long. On the TV, ads for reverse mortgages and elder abuse play. A Price is Right commercial break perhaps? Bagel and spread display meet average standards. 3.75
Bagel: Medium-large bagel, served warm. Impression of hole rather than hole proper. Light to very light topping density, however not a detriment as the salt ratio is solid. A rewarding, dog-with-a-bone chew. Crusty crackly shell. A good offering. 4
Cream Cheese: Served at neutral temperature aided by bagel heat. Scallions are not super impactful on texture but have a good overall flavor presence. Application amount leaves me wanting slightly more, but coverage is good. Very fresh, no cheese sensation. 4
